TechNet Indo-Pacific
November 1-3, 2022
Honolulu, HI
Booth #129

D2iQ is excited to be participating in TechNet Indo-Pacific 2022 as a sponsor. This event is largely a government and military technology expo sponsored by the AFCEA (Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association).

TechNet Indo-Pacific is the largest event of its kind in the Indo-Pacific Rim, with an agenda focused on the regional issues military leaders have identified. This is a natural setting for D2iQ, as reflected in our roster of military and government customers, including the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, the Department of Homeland Security, Missile Defense Agency, Argonne National Laboratory, and more.

Sweeping Military Modernization

The modernization of the military is in full swing as reflected in a bevy of strategic initiatives. In January 2022, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Chief Information Officer published a memorandum explaining that its Software Modernization Strategy centers on “the delivery of resilient software capability at the speed of relevance.”

As part of the U.S. federal government’s “Cloud Smart” strategy, the General Services Administration (GSA) released its Container Readiness Guide. The guide is part of the U.S. federal government’s effort “to adopt increasingly cutting-edge technologies and embrace large changes to existing Information Technology (IT) infrastructure.”

AI Adoption a Major Goal

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a key element of the U.S. government’s modernization effort. As Fedtech Magazine reports, “Artificial Intelligence, machine learning and predictive analytics are increasingly viewed as a matter of national security.”

This concern is echoed in The National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence (NSCAI) Final Report, which concludes that “AI technologies will be a source of enormous power for the companies and countries that harness them.”

Likewise, Deloitte in its report on “Scaling AI in Government” notes that “the transformational potential of AI is not lost on organizations at every level of government.” Deloitte’s survey shows that 92% of federal government leaders feel that AI is important to future mission outcomes.

In February 2022, the DoD’s Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) was established to lead the DoD’s strategy and policy on data, analytics, and AI adoption, as well as govern and oversee efforts across the DoD.

D2iQ is providing the Kubernetes infrastructure and AI management capability to help the military meet its modernization goals. D2iQ’s unique ability to support AI and other advanced capabilities required by the JADC2 initiative is described in this solution brief. A companion brief describes how D2iQ meets the needs of the Space and Missile Defense mission to deliver synchronized communications at the tactical edge during battlefield conditions.

Zero Trust Security and Air-Gapped Deployment

The Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity requires government agencies to achieve specific zero trust security goals by the end of the 2024 fiscal year. In General Dynamics Information Technology’s 2022 report, “Agency Guide to Zero Trust Maturity,” 63% of respondents from federal civilian and defense agencies said they believed their agencies would achieve specific zero trust security goals by the end of fiscal 2024.

This Kubernetes security cheat sheet provides tips and best practices for implementing zero trust security. In a recent Container Journal article, D2iQ CTO Deepak Goel offered further guidance on “Implementing Zero-Trust on Kubernetes.”

DKP has become the Kubernetes platform of choice for government customers not only because of its ease of deployment and management, but for its military-grade security. As SAIC CTO Bob Ricci notes, D2iQ is unique in its ability to enable an air-gapped environment to be easily deployed in minutes.

Air-gapped security, in which systems and sensitive data are isolated from the internet, is the state of the art in securing Kubernetes environments. As this solution brief relates, D2iQ meets all NSA/CISA Kubernetes security hardening guidelines.
