In order to run Kubernetes in production, you need more than just the base Kubernetes, but a variety of other necessary add-on services, such as monitoring, security, disaster recovery, and more. However, navigating the cloud-native ecosystem is complex and rapidly changing, making it difficult to build a robust production platform required to run mission critical business services.
To add to the complexity, the collection of required open-source projects needs to be integrated, automated, and tested for resiliency, scale, and interoperability which is expensive to build and maintain. Unfortunately, many organizations don’t have the right skills and expert resources to get there themselves, leaving them with gaps in their capabilities or delaying production deployment. They need a partner who can help guide them, train them, and design and build a production-ready infrastructure that they can manage and feel confident in using.
Engineered from the beginning to be an open platform,
DKP is designed to help organizations leverage Kubernetes and its supporting CNCF cloud-native technologies on the infrastructure of their choosing. It’s built on pure upstream open source Kubernetes and leverages an infrastructure-as-a-code declarative approach out-of-the-box.
Below, we illustrate two ways of how DKP fits into the broader CNCF ecosystem.
1) D2iQ Platform Applications
DKP takes care of the heavy lifting by selecting all of the necessary supporting services from the CNCF landscape and integrating them for an out-of-the-box, production-ready experience. The services located in the lavender colored ring in the illustration are the add-ons that we’ve curated for our customers. These add-ons are packaged as part of our Kubernetes distribution and have been thoroughly tested with Konvoy, Kommander, and Kaptain. In addition, D2iQ delivers full support for Kubernetes and its supporting stack of services to ensure continuous interoperability throughout the life of the project. The result is a significant reduction in the time and effort involved in standing up a production-ready Kubernetes environment and an accelerated time-to-market for your application development needs.
2) 3rd Party and Partner Applications
Although DKP provides an opinionated Kubernetes distribution that contains all of the add-ons for production implementation of Kubernetes, customers have the flexibility to layer additional 3rd party add-ons or replace any of these add-ons with any CNCF compatible add-ons from the white colored ring in the illustration, as well. This flexibility allows customers to choose the best innovation to fit their objectives, and not restrict them to specific apps or single proprietary solutions as common with other vendors.
