DAFITC 2022 Keys On Military Resilience and Cyber Deterrence

DAFITC 2022
August 29-31
Montgomery, Alabama
Booth #112
D2iQ is pleased to be a sponsor of the Department of the Air Force Information Technology and Cyberpower (DAFITC) 2022, in Montgomery, Alabama, from August 29-31.

This year’s DAFITC theme is “A Resilient Digital Air and Space Force: Enabling Deterrence Through Cyber.” This theme aligns with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Software Modernization Strategy that centers on “the delivery of resilient software capability at the speed of relevance.”

The DoD Software Modernization Strategy calls for the military to gain the ability to “securely deliver resilient software capabilities” to empower warfighters and cyber defenders with the latest innovations to better understand the battlefield, including the use of automation and machine learning to realize the goals of the Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) initiative.

As this solution brief explains, D2iQ is unique in its ability to support the advanced capabilities required for JADC2. Likewise, this companion brief describes how D2iQ meets the tactical edge communications requirements of the Space and Missile Defense mission to deliver synchronized communications to joint operations during battlefield conditions.

These capabilities have made the D2iQ Kubernetes Platform (DKP) the Kubernetes platform of choice for a wide range of government and military customers that includes the U.S. Air Force, The Naval Undersea Warfighting Development Center (UWDC), the Office of Naval Intelligence, the Department of Homeland Security, the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and Argonne National Laboratory.

These government and military organizations have chosen DKP because of its ease of deployment and management, in addition to providing military-grade security that meets all NSA/CISA Kubernetes security hardening guidelines.

Security Is Imperative

Security is emphasized throughout the DoD Software Modernization Strategy, including the imperative that the new software capabilities “must augment and integrate with other infrastructure components to include Zero Trust Architectures (ZTA).”

This aligns with the Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity, which requires government agencies to achieve specific zero trust security goals by the end of the 2024 fiscal year. In General Dynamics Information Technology’s 2022 report, “Agency Guide to Zero Trust Maturity,” 63% of respondents from federal civilian and defense agencies said they believed their agencies would achieve specific zero trust security goals by the end of fiscal 2024.

In a recent webinar, SAIC CTO Bob Ricci cited the reasons why SAIC chose D2iQ as its Kubernetes solution provider, including the way in which DKP provides a fully integrated production-ready platform based on pure open source Kubernetes, and the ease with which an air-gapped environment can be deployed.

D2iQ CTO Deepak Goel offers his expert insights into zero trust security for Kubernetes in this recent article in the Container Journal. As Deepak notes, securing Kubernetes requires not only technology, but also employee awareness and adherence to security best practices.
